São Marthino do Porto is a lively village with about 5000 inhabitants. It is situated on an attractive, calm bay. The bay is a shell-shaped lagune. A narrow opening between rocky outcrops connects it to the ocean. The sea here is therefore very calm making it an ideal beach for bathing and safe for children. The bay is enclosed by hills and dunes and the coast has sandy beaches. Square, blue and white striped beach tents are a common sight on the sea-front.
It’s a very pleasant seaside resort for both young and old. In the east of the bay you’ll find the harbor. There’s a fish market open daily in the village centre and of course you can find good (fish)restaurants everywhere.
The boulevard has many restaurants and bars with outside tables where you can enjoy the view on the ocean.
To the south of São Marthino do Porto lies the little village of Salir do Porto. Salir do Porto has about 800 inhabitants and it is also situated on the beautiful bay of São Marthino do Porto.
